Question

Notion desktop app spell check not working.

When a word is underlined as wrong and I rightclick to correct it doesn't update after selecting the right one. Any ideas?

This for sure is something local, try a reset app and clear local data inside the Notion menu. That will load everything fresh and things should work as expected.

How do you reset or clear local data in the Windows desktop app? I don't see either of those options in my menu

Hey @newbietoo.

  • Close your Windows App.
  • In File Explorer, go to C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming.
  • Delete the "Notion" folder inside Roaming.

Hope that helps.

Thank for that @polle, that worked as a reset, but it didn't fix the Spellcheck problem.

I originally contacted Notion support about it in October. They said they had escalated it and then asked me for a video, which I sent. Then a month later they said they were still working on it

Try before right clicking on the typo to highlight the text first, then right click to correct spelling choosing one the options.

Spellcheck also depends on system settings, so you may want to have a look at those.

Spellcheck works, except you have to click on the correct word 2 - 3 times before it accepts it

Yes, that is exactly what I said above :)

You have to select the word before right clicking, otherwise the right click is for the complete page, not the word itself.

Ah got it. Then I should probably tell Notion support about that! I've noticed in other places e.g. Reddit, people complaining about it. It's not intuitive, as anywhere else I use a spellchecker, I've not had to left-click the word. And I don't understand why I should, as a right-click obviously identifies the word (the correct spelling pops up)

Anyway, thank you for your help @polle

Hundreds of people are looking for this answer!! I've been trying for two years and no one has had anything to say other than "Notion is working on it."

I have no idea why you'd have to highlight the word when they've thoughtfully underlined it already, but it works!! This will make my dyslexic typing SO much easier..,
