filtering/limiting what appears in a relation field

I am using Notion to store notes associated with various projects, and one of the fields in the Meeting Notes DB is a relation connected to a separate Projects DB.
However, as time passes projects wrap up and new projects start. In order to avoid having the list grow overwhelming, I want to have only active projects appear in the dropdown list.

Is there some way to do this? There doesn't seem to be any way to apply a filter directly to the list of items that appears in the dropdown. I thought about creating a separate, intermediate DB of just active projects but that has a couple of problems. One is that I can't keep the same project name because the anchor field can't auto-populate. Another is that when a project rolls off of the active projects DB, it would vanish from the notes DB, which is not what I want.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately there's no way to filter relation at this moment.

A QOL suggestion is maybe to add [Archive] or [Completed] to your completed project so it's easier to navigate.
