I would like to try out the personal pro plan, because I’m not sure if the version history feature is necessary for me. But it seems that we can only try the Notion team plans?

There is not a trial version for the Notion personal pro plan. But if you go to Settings & Members > Earn Credit, you will find your credit balance which should be enough for about 6 months of the Notion personal pro plan for free.
