I have a number of databases and am looking to make notion automatically populate the icon of the database record when the record is created (that are all the same).

how do I achieve this ?

Create a template for that.

Click the little arrow in the New button at the top right of the Notion database and create a template there.

Add the info you need for the page, including the icon and set the template as default.

Now when you click the new button the template will be used and that will include the icon for the Notion pages, which in this case are database entries.
